An Act to establish a permanent seat of justice in and for the parish of
St. Helena Approved March 25, 1813. “Old” Montpelier or the “first“ Montpelier
was located south of the present day Montpelier. It served as county seat
until 1832. Montpelier Academy was located there as well a very early Post
Office (1814). Montpelier flourished for awhile but with the removal of the
parish seat to Greensburg, and the closure of the Academy, it faded away.
The Post Office was closed January 20,1859.
